Rey Ximenes MD FIPP is the founder and director of The Pain and Stress Management Center in Austin, Texas. The Pain and Stress Management Center is a multi-disciplinary Pain Management practice dedicated to the integration of modalities to alleviate pain and facilitate healing and better health. This has naturally led to the use of various therapeutic treatments in an overall wellness blueprint with our patients.
Dr. Ximenes began his career in medicine as an Anesthesiology resident at UTMSH with rotations at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Texas Heart Institute, St. Luke's Hospital, Hermann Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston Texas. His training included General Anesthesia, Cardio-Vascular Anesthesia, Neuro-Anesthesia,
Obstetrical Anesthesia and Pain Management. This gave him a broad perspective to draw upon in the practice of alleviating pain.
Shortly after moving to Austin, it became evident that chronic pain was being woefully under-treated in this city. There were others involved in pain management, but their approach focused primarily on invasive, interventional Western methodology. Dr. Ximenes realized this approach, although somewhat effective and certainly often a necessary component was incomplete in addressing the multi-factorial needs of chronic pain patients. It was at this point that he began to utilize some of the techniques he had learned in his lifelong search for additional pieces of the puzzle. This quest included many areas of alternative medicine, which Dr. Ximenes prefers to term "integrative medicine"; with the implication that we can receive all possible modalities in a synergistic approach, rather than having to choose between paradigms.
Dr. Ximenes developed the Pain and Stress Management Center in an effort to better treat patient needs. He is well-versed in and offers a full complement of western medical techniques, while integrating complementary "alternative" modalities such as Medical Acupuncture, Prolotherapy (Regenerative Injection Therapy), Spinal Disc Decompression, Dry Needle Trigger Point Release (Myofascial Release), Targeted Nutritional Therapy, Naturopathy, Biomeridian® MSAS® (meridian stress assessment system) electrodermal testing, Homeopathy, as well as Tai Chi instruction. Dr. Ximenes maintains an informal network of friends, teachers, practitioners, and healers to provide a true multi-disciplinary approach to health care.
